Story Time with Tanzy! 📖
Join Tanzy, one of our practicum students from the U of S College of Education, for Story Time in the Gathering Place! They will be reading Mwâkwa Talks to the Loon: A Cree Story for Children bv Dale Auger, followed by a language activity.
Synopsis: Kayâs is a young Cree man who is blessed with a gift that makes him a talented hunter. He knows the ways of the animals he hunts and can even talk with them in their own languages. But when he becomes proud and takes his abilities for granted, he loses his gift, and the people grow hungry. With the help of the Elders, Kayâs learns that in order to live a life of fulfillment, he must learn to cherish and respect the talents he has been given.
Activity: Follow along as young Mwâkwa embarks on a journey filled with valuable lessons on empathy, self-control, and the importance of listening, all taught by a wise loon. Following the story, children will have the chance to learn how to greet animals in Cree.
