Volunteer at Wonderhub

As a non-profit organization, Nutrien Wonderhub relies on the help of volunteers to deliver on our mission of providing a fun, inclusive environment for children and their grown-ups.

We are lucky to have a team of friendly, hard-working volunteers, but there’s always room for more! Check out our wonder-full volunteer opportunities:

*All new volunteers are required to complete a minimum 6 hours of introductory volunteering before moving on to the volunteer opportunities below.

All of our volunteers start at Tier 1 in an entry level position. In this level volunteers are introduced to a wide variety of tasks, where they learn about who we are, and what we do as an organization.

Examples of Volunteer activities in this level:

  • Create Space Cleaning
  • Create Space Program Prep
  • Museum Reset
  • Greeter
  • Visitor Experience Support

Volunteers need to accumulate a minimum of 6 hours of volunteering in this Tier before they move on to Tier 2 – Facilitator Support.

The next level of volunteering is Tier 2 – Facilitator Support. As a Facilitator Support volunteer, you’ll assist and support the delivery of our growing programming menu. Working with our staff and contract Facilitators, you’ll lend a hand during Discovery Visits, Wonder Camps, Storytime and in Create Space and other events held during museum hours.

Examples of Volunteer activities in this level:

  • After Hours / Family Night Support
  • Create Space Animation
  • Discovery Visit Support
  • Museum Animation Support
  • Storytime Support
  • Wonder Camps Support

Volunteers need to accumulate a minimum of 12 hours of volunteering in this Tier before they move on to Tier 3 – Independent Facilitation.

The next level of volunteering is Tier 3 – Independent Facilitation. As a Independent Facilitation volunteer, you’ll lead our programs and activities for the general public. Working independently with the support of our staff, you’ll lead activities such as, exhibit animations, storytime, crafts/experiments in Create Space and other events held during museum hours. You will also have the opportunity to work on independent tasks such as data entry and program & prop maintenance.

Examples of Volunteer activities in this level:

  • Data Entry (Programming or Visitor Service)
  • Exhibit Animation (Storytime, Crafts, Experiments)
  • Exhibit Set up for exhibit change over
  • Program maintenance and repairs

No hour requirements in this Tier.

The next level of volunteering is Tier 4 – Development & Facilitation. Volunteers who are interested in developing and leading a program independently can submit a proposal to our Education & Outreach Manager who they will work directly with to develop, budget and lead their chosen project. Projects must align with Wonderhub’s strategic goals.

Examples of Volunteer developed and led programs:

  • Creative Sprouts (learning about reactive plants, hydroponics and more)
  • Creative Tales (Weekly storytime and a craft – theme varies week to week)
  • Move to Improve (movement based activities)

No hour requirements in this Tier.

This Tier is great for volunteers who have a special interest that they would like to share, or if they are needing to design and lead a program for schooling.

The Fine Print

  • All new volunteers are required to attend a Volunteer Information session – dates are provided in application form
  • All volunteers are required to obtain a Criminal Record Check
  • Wonderhub offers volunteer opportunities Tuesday – Sunday, during operating hours, as well as special event after hours opportunities
  • Volunteer shifts are a minimum of 2 hours
