Join us today for our virtual Culture Days program: Sufi Whirling with Heather Grove Whirling is a moving meditation that relaxes and opens the mind. There are a few different types of Whirling, But Sufi Whirling originates from the religion Sufism. However, there are mentions of whirling in other religious texts as well, such as the bible. Modern day whirling can still be tied to religion, but it can also be a personal meditation, or a fun performance as well. The whirling presented here is untraditional, which can be seen in the music and costume design.
